NO. R-226.  JOINT RESOLUTION honoring State Senator Barbara Snelling for her many years of dedicated public service on behalf of the citizens of Vermont.

     Whereas, Barbara Snelling has been a dedicated public servant, as well as a community builder and leader, for decades in Vermont, and

     Whereas, Barbara Snelling has served Vermont in many capacities, including her local school board, the state board of education, and as Vice President of the University of Vermont, and

     Whereas, Barbara Snelling served Vermonters with dignity and grace as first lady of our state for many years, and

     Whereas, Barbara Snelling has also had a distinguished career, serving both as our lieutenant governor and as a state senator representing Chittenden County, a position she still holds today, and

     Whereas, Barbara Snelling has shown incredible courage and an indomitable spirit, time and again, coming back from illness and adversity to continue to serve the state she loves, and

     Whereas, Barbara Snelling has always put Vermont first, even now as she has sadly decided she cannot fully carry out her duties and will resign her seat in the Vermont State Senate, and

     Whereas, Barbara Snelling is a beloved figure in the state of Vermont and has displayed a tremendous passion for Vermont, now therefore be it

     Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates and thanks Barbara Snelling for her many years of dedicated public service to the state of Vermont, and that this legislature praises her for her incredible spirit and determination, and be it further

     Resolved:  That the members of this legislature pray for her continued recovery from her recent illness, hope that she continues to serve Vermont in the future, and wish her well in all her days ahead, and be it further

     Resolved:  That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to State Senator Barbara Snelling in Shelburne.
