Subject: Fish and wildlife; moose hunting; hunter safety course

Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to direct the department of fish and wildlife to auction up to 12 moose hunting permits and to use the proceeds to encourage children to take a hunter safety course.

AN ACT RELATING TO AUCTIONING OF MOOSE HUNTING PERMITS AND HUNTER SAFETY COURSES

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1. 10 V.S.A. § 4280 is added to read:

§ 4280. MOOSE HUNTING PERMITS; AUCTION

Annually, the commissioner shall hold an auction at which people may bid on up to 12 moose hunting permits. The commissioner shall use the proceeds from the auction to encourage and facilitate taking of the hunter safety course offered under subsection 4254(c) of this title by children and young adults.
