Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to change the current system of reimbursing school districts for tuition payments to technical centers so that all districts receive 50 percent reimbursement one year following payment, except that the system for reimbursing comprehensive high schools for technical education would not be changed.

AN ACT RELATING TO STATE REIMBURSEMENT FOR TUITION PAID TO TECHNICAL CENTERS

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1. 16 V.S.A. § 1561(b) is amended to read:

(b) State technical tuition assistance shall be paid for the following secondary students:

(1) *[If the student is enrolled in technical education at a receiving district and the sending district does not maintain a high school, assistance shall be paid in the amount of twenty percent of the technical tuition charged by the receiving district in the school year two years prior to the year of payment;]*

*[(2) If the student is enrolled in both academic education and technical education ata receiving district which is the student's district of residence, assistance shall be paid in the amount of twenty percent of the technical tuition charged by the receiving district in the school year two years prior to the year of payment;]*

*[(3)]* If the student is enrolled in technical education *[at a receiving district and is enrolled in academic education at a school maintained by the sending district]* at a technical center, assistance in the amount of one-half of the technical tuition charged by the receiving district in the school year *[two years]* one year prior to the year of payment shall be paid;

*[(4) Unless otherwise provided in the preceding subdivisions, if the student is enrolled in technical education at a receiving district, assistance shall be paid in the amount of one-half of the technical tuition charged by the receiving district in the school year two years prior to the year of payment.]*

*[(5)]*(2) If the student is enrolled in technical education at a comprehensive high school, assistance shall be paid in the amount of ten percent of the average actual cost per pupil in the school year two years prior to the year of payment.
