NO. R-86. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE WHITCOMB HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER LADY HORNETS.

Whereas, for many a season, the soccer Lady Hornets of Whitcomb High School have toiled on the playing fields of Vermont in pursuit of the Division IV girls championship, and
Whereas, after nearly claiming the title in 1995, the Lady Hornets squad kicked off their 1996 season determined to clinch the Division IV girls soccer crown, and
Whereas, their consistently high caliber of play throughout the fall months earned the Lady Hornets an impressive 16-2 record and a berth in the 1996 championship game against their final 1995 opponents, the Twinfield High School Trojans, and
Whereas, upon commencing play at the championship contest at Memorial Field in Barre Town, they immediately demonstrated their strategic superiority retaining exclusive possession of the ball for six minutes until Ashleigh Benson successfully kicked the first point past the Twinfield goalie, and
Whereas, at the 23:58 mark, Lady Hornet Melissa Lawrance sealed the Whitcomb High School victory by sending the ball pass the goal line and placing an insurance point on the scoreboard, and
Whereas, Whitcomb goalie Jessica Becker accumulated five saves as the Lady Hornets completed this pivotal match with a 2-0 triumph, and
Whereas, among the important contributors to this historic victory under the outstanding leadership of coach Willard Mills, were Cassie Bath, Leslie Benson, Michelle Campbell, Jennifer Colton, Kim Cutting, Kelly Daniels, Maggie Dundas, Connie Gavin, Heather Huckett, Kate Hughes, Jessica Lawrance, Loretta Lumbra, Morgan McConnell, Melissa McCullough, Jenni Power, Lizzie Sheftman, Mirka Stanchak and Ami Taplin, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly is pleased to congratulate the Whitcomb High School Lady Hornets for winning their first Division IV soccer championship, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send copies of this resolution to both coach Willard Mills and to Whitcomb High School.
