Whereas, James B. Antell, Sr. of Burlington, Richard M. Chapman of South Burlington, Thomas M. Debevoise of Woodstock, David E. Gamper of Landgrove, Robert T. Gannett of Brattleboro, Robert S. Gillette of Montpelier, Luther Hackett of South Burlington, John Hunter, Jr. of Brattleboro, Thomas P. Salmon of Rockingham, Barbara W. Snelling of Shelburne, Sallie T. Soule of Shelburne, Louise R. Swainbank of St. Johnsbury, Hilton A. Wick of Burlington, and R. Marshall Witten of Bennington, as the Founding Directors of The Vermont Community Foundation (the VCF), exhibited great vision in March, 1986 by forming the VCF as Vermont’s statewide charitable fund, and

Whereas, the VCF, as a tax-exempt, public charity, encourages the growth of effective and responsible private philanthropy as a means of addressing the problems and concerns of our communities and neighbors, and

Whereas, many who care deeply about the long-term needs of Vermont have turned to the VCF as an efficient way of achieving their charitable objectives, and

Whereas, the permanent assets of the VCF now total more than $20 million, and

Whereas, the grants and distributions of the VCF in its early years amount to over $7 million, and

Whereas, the VCF will begin a celebration of its tenth anniversary year at its tenth annual meeting in Montpelier on Tuesday, August 20, 1996, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the Vermont General Assembly proudly salutes the Vermont Community Foundation and its directors and staff on the extraordinary growth and accomplishments of the Foundation in its first ten years, and warmly welcomes the Foundation to the State House for the celebration of the beginning of its tenth anniversary, and be it further

Resolved: That the Sergeant-at-Arms is authorized to make the State House and grounds available to the Vermont Community Foundation on Tuesday, August 20, 1996, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Vermont Community Foundation.
