Whereas, the people of Burlington, and all of Vermont, have lost a friend and an enthusiastic community leader with the passing of Thomas Racine on January 3, 1996, and

Whereas, his efforts and leadership on the Downtown Burlington Development Association and the Church Street Marketplace contributed greatly to the economic vitality of the City of Burlington and Chittenden County, and

Whereas, his service as chairman of the Public Works Commission and founder of the Transportation and Parking Council resulted in numerous improvements and advances, and

Whereas, his efforts as general manager of the Vermont Expos baseball team earned him the honor of "Executive of the Year" in the NY-Penn League in 1994, and brought to all of us the enjoyment of having baseball back in Vermont, and

Whereas, most of all, Tom Racine gave to Burlington and Chittenden County a spirit of community pride, public service, and selflessness that inspired others and enriched our community and state, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That we honor Thomas Racine, and while we are deeply saddened by his passing, we are most grateful for his lifelong service, for his selfless contributions to our public well-being, and for his inspirational example to all of us, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to forward an official copy of this resolution to his wife, Jeannette, and to his family, with our deep condolences and with profound appreciation from the people of the State of Vermont.
