Whereas, Daniel Robbins of Braintree, prominent art historian and author of The Vermont State House: A History and Guide, died on January 14, 1995, following a long illness, and

Whereas, Dr. Robbins, at the request of the State House Preservation Committee of the General Assembly and the Vermont Council on the Arts, undertook in 1979 a comprehensive study of the history and collections of the Vermont State House with an eye towards preserving and interpreting them for the visiting public, while recognizing the building's principal purpose as the home for the state legislature, and

Whereas, Dr. Robbins' study resulted in a published guide and history of the Vermont State House, the curatorial management of the building and its historic collections, the founding of the Friends of the Vermont State House, and plans to restore the interior of the capitol building, and

Whereas, the current restoration of our State House has been acclaimed by visitors and preservationists throughout the nation, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That this General Assembly does hereby express our gratitude to Daniel Robbins for his inspiring vision and perseverance, and our sincere condolences to his family, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the family of Daniel Robbins.
